Biography :

Discover the art of Franck Duminil, one of the greatest lyrical abstractionists of our time. Yet his extreme modesty kept his work hidden for most of his life. Photos cannot convey the deep spirituality and tranquility one feels in the presence of a real Duminil. Franck Duminil was born in 1933. He spent his youth between Paris and Béarn (South-West of France) where he was immersed in the Pyrenean nature. 1954 -1958, while learning to paint, attended the architectural workshops of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux and Paris. 1963: begins to exhibit his first works, and in 1968 decides to devote himself to painting. Several monumental works and numerous exhibitions in France and abroad. 1983 moved to Montmartre. Permanently in galleries in France and abroad and has participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions. Currently in private collections, foundations, museums. Recent exhibitions: 2013 - Ningbo Museum, China. Individual exhibition and trip in January 2013. Galerie ART today, Paris, June-July 2013. From April 11 to May 18, 2013, Duminil was invited to exhibit eighteen paintings in Rouen Cathedral. 2012: Balastra Gallery, Belgium - 2008 - 2010 to 2012: Europia Gallery, Paris. Franck died on June 13, 2014. A work by Duminil immediately imposes its presence. Not that his approach is easy because we must get rid of appearances, forget the contours of things, to receive their original undifferentiated form. Franck Duminil is, however, not an “abstract” painter in the common sense of the term. He is much more than that. Abstraction, for him, far from being a pure play of forms, is a primordial journey towards the essential, where form does not yet exist. His paintings are the place where all possibilities emerge. A few traces and the original glow of blue, yellow or red emerge from the night or dawn. Duminil goes beyond spatial and temporal characteristics to let us glimpse the undifferentiated basis of things. This “not yet arrived”, this “informal”, this dive into the indefinite are the very substance of his work.
